Women Empowerment

The women who were mobilized during Arivoli Iyakkam(Literacy Movement) are being organized and empowered through a separate organisation called Deepam Mahalir Mempattu Iyakkam, shortly called DEEPAM. It is an organisation meant for microcredit among poor women commonly called Self-Help Groups(SHG). Deepam has nearly 100 SHGs. Each SHG has not more than 20 women as members. Nearly 2000 women are mobilsied under DEEPAM. Science Forum helps this women's movement by way of helping in organizational and empowering activities. Science Forum activists help in forming women's group at villages, conducting conferences, training, initiating microenterprises etc.,
